Talkington Motorsports History

Father & Son Racing Team John and Wayne Talkington never imagined where a conversation at the local truck stop with other truckers on who is over the road truck is faster would lead to designing a Big Rig Super Truck! A Super Truck that would propel Wayne to becoming the World Record Holder in Diesel Drag Racing.

Wayne's Father John Talkington started his career in over the road truck driving in 1957. After racing over the road trucks simply for fun in his spare time, he decided to purchase a Big Rig specifically for the purpose of racing. In 1998 he bought a 1963 Kenworth 921 for $650.

The truck underwent a major design and rebuild to make it the Super Truck it is today. A custom built twin turbo Detroit engine was installed that is powered by Nitrous Oxide. The manual transmission was replaced with a 740 Allison Automatic. To make the truck lighter and to improve aerodynamics for racing, the hood was extended and lightened to accommodate the Detroit engine, while maintaining the Classic Kenworth Look. The front axel was changed to aluminum and the rear end was switched out to an Eaton, which improved safety for racing purposes. A custom roll cage which is NHRA certified has also been installed. A far cry from the purchase price of $650, the truck in now valued at $75,000.00!

T-N-T Racing officially formed in 1970. Wayne began his career racing go carts and dirt bikes. Wayne's first race was 1999 at Truck Thunder where he finished with a time of 16 seconds. This was only the beginning. Since then he has competed in over 20 races and holds the World Record in Diesel Drag Racings Super Truck Division, with an elapsed time of 11.70 seconds.

Wayne and John will be competing and making personal appearances at several truck shows and drag races throughout the year, including the U. S. Diesel Nationals in Englishtown N. J., Can-Am Nationals in Canada, the International Trucking Show in Los Angeles and many others.
